Setting up your AIR Van Front Cab Air Mattress

Included in your box:

  • AIR Van Front Cab Mattress
  • T-Shape Space Filler
  • Rechargeable Cordless Air Pump
  • Carrying Case
  • Repair Patch

Before You Use: Inflate & Let Rest For 48 Hours

Prior to using your mattress on its first adventure, we recommend fully inflating the mattress and t-shape space filler, and allowing them to remain inflated for 48 hours. You can leave your new mattress inflated anywhere you have space—it doesn’t need to be in your camper van!

Letting your mattress stretch out before your first use will ensure your gear is ready for action. You may find that the inflation valve is leaking some air – this is actually something that can happen if the valve gets squished in transit. Letting your mattress and t-shape space filler sit inflated for 48 hours will reseat the valve and resolve the issue.

Setup Instructions:

  1. Remove mattress, t-shape space filler, and pump from carrying case
  2. Ensure that deflation valves are closed before inflating mattress and t-shape space filler
  3. Place the t-shape space filler on the floor of the front cab of your van; the “T” of the space filler should lay parallel to your front dash
  4. Open inflation valve on the side of the t-shape space filler, and inflate with your air pump
  5. Place the mattress on top of the t-shape space filler and inflate
  6. Adjust the firmness of the mattress and t-shape space filler by gently tapping the flap found inside of the inflation valve
  7. Once you’ve let your mattress and t-shape space filler sit inflated for 48 hours prior to first use, you’re ready to take it on its first adventure!

Deflating your AIR Van Front Cab Mattress

You can use your air pump to deflate your mattress and t-shape space filler. Deflating your mattress with your air pump will help ensure that your Luno gear will pack down to be as small as possible!

  1. Simply place the nozzle onto the intake (on top of the pump). Then, turn the air pump on and place it in the deflation valve
  2. Deflate the mattress and t-shape space filler using the “deflate” valve
  3. Place the deflated t-shape space filler on top of the deflated mattress
  4. Roll the mattress up, adjusting the t-shape space filler being rolled inside as needed
  5. Place in carrying case

Cleaning your AIR Van Front Cab Air Mattress

Regular cleaning will extend the life of your mattress, especially if you sleep in direct contact with its surface (i.e. without a sheet covering the mattress).

Do not put your mattress in the washing machine. Instead, try the following:

Wipe down your mattress with a damp cloth to remove excess dirt or sand.

For more thorough cleaning (when your dog jumps on with muddy paws or you’ve taken your mattress out of your vehicle), cleaning with a hose or in a bathtub is best. Don’t forget to close the valves while washing! Using a quick scrubbing with Formula 409®, BioClean™ All-Purpose Cleaner, or other general household cleaner is best.

Storing your AIR Van Front Cab Mattress

When you are not out on a trip, we recommend storing the mattress in its carrying case in a room temperature and dry environment. Be sure to not store your mattress under any heavy items.

To prevent your valves from getting squished, we recommend closing your valves when storing your mattress.

When putting away your mattress for the season, inflate and then deflate your mattress and t-shape space filler for the last time in a dry environment so that no moisture is left in the mattress.

Repairing your AIR Van Front Cab Mattress

Repairing a hole leak:

If you find your mattress has started losing air overnight, it may be time to check for a leak and patch your mattress! Good news - most leaks are easy to fix. To start:

  1. Inflate your mattress.
  2. Can you determine if either of the valves seem to be the culprit? If you hear a slight hissing sound or feel air when you put your ear next to the valve when it is closed shut, the valve  is likely your issue here.
  3. If the valves look ok, run your cheek/ear along the mattress to listen for where air is coming from. Do you hear a faint hissing noise anywhere?
  4. If you still aren't able to identify the leak of the location, put a little non-oily soap (dish soap is perfect) in a bowl. Use a sponge, dish cloth, or even wet paper towel to apply the soapy water liberally to the mattress (front, back, and along the seams) to see if any bubbles form. If bubbles begin forming, this is the location of the leak!
  5. Rinse off any soap residue, and deflate the pad.
  6. Allow the mattress to fully dry.
  7. Once dry, trim the repair patch (found in the pocket of your carrying case) to your desired size, and firmly apply the patch.
  8. Inflate your pad and leave inflated overnight to check that all leaks have been fixed - you should be all set and ready to camp!
  9. If you aren’t able to fix your leak, please reach out to [email protected] - we’ll do what we can to make sure your AIR Van Front Cab Mattress is leak-free!

Repairing a valve leak:

If you hear air escaping after you take the pump out of the inflate valve, the inner seal of the valve has likely become slightly ‘squished’. This can happen in transit when the mattress is rolled up tightly and stored under heavy items.

  1. This is usually solvable by leaving the mattress inflated for 48 hours, giving the valves time to return to their normal shape.
  2. If that doesn’t fix the problem, we recommend squeezing the valves firmly to reseat the inner seal.
  3. If that doesn’t solve the issue, please reach out to [email protected].

Using your AIR Van Front Cab Mattress in the cold

Because our mattress is intended for use within a vehicle, we do not add insulation to our mattresses. Vehicles provide a large and dense barrier between you and the elements, meaning that much of our "sleeping system" can rely on the insulation of the vehicle for warmth.

We have tested our mattress in zero degree weather, in freezing temperatures inside a car packed with seven inches of snow on top, and in 50mph winds at 40 degrees. In all of these cases we found that we did not experience any chill or "cold-sink" from the mattress below.

If you're worried about being cold while camping, check out our blog post here, where we explain a few different ways to stay extra warm while camping in the cold!

Can I drive with my AIR Van Front Cab Mattress set up?

You will not be able to drive with your AIR Van Front Cab Mattress set up, as it blocks the driver's seat, steering wheel, and driving pedals.
